Norwalk Hospital is a 328-bed, private, not-for-profit,
acute care community hospital located in Fairfield County.
Fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Health Care Organizations, the hospital maintains the
objective of providing outstanding patient care and community
health education. Norwalk Hospital, noted for its superb,
dedicated medical staff, is a primary teaching affiliate
of Yale University School of Medicine and holds additional
prestigious teaching affiliations.
Maternity Program - Norwalk Hospital is a perinatal center
which offers specialized services for the identification
and care of high-risk mothers and newborns. The hospital
is equipped with a diagnostic testing center where tests
of women having complicated pregnancies are conducted by
a perinatologist, ultrasound technician and antenatal nurse
clinician. Genetic counseling offers guidance to families
who might be at risk for genetic disorders. The hospital
offers tours of the Maternity Center regularly.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit provides specialized care
for premature
and sick infants.
Comprehensive Cancer Center - Norwalk Hospital s comprehensive
cancer program comprises state-of-the-art diagnostic and
therapeutic technology, oncologists who are at the leading
edge of current cancer science, and a broad range of support
personnel including medical and surgical oncology nurses,
chemotherapy teams, social workers and volunteers who provide
the kind of personal support and understanding needed to
help patients and their families battle cancer.
Hyperbaric Treatment Center - Norwalk Hospital has been
providing hyperbaric treatment for patients since 1970 and
is the only hospital in Connecticut with hyperbaric chambers.
Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the facility
comprises two hyperbaric chambers capable of delivering
up to three atmospheres of pure oxygen. Hyperbaric therapy
benefits people suffering from acute carbon monoxide poisoning,
gas gangrene, decompression sickness, osteomyelitis, thermal
burns, leg ulcers, and numerous other ailments.
Other Special Services - Other special services available
at Norwalk Hospital include an epilepsy center for diagnosis
and treatment; a sleep disorders center for diagnosing and
treating sleep problems; alcohol and drug rehabilitation
programs; a pulmonary rehabilitation program; and a diabetes
program.
Physician Referral - Families and individuals seeking a
new physician will be helped by the Norwalk Hospital Physician
Referral Service, which provides names and information about

Danbury Hospital opened its doors in 1885 and serves
as the primary diagnosis and treatment center for western
Connecticut and southeastern New York. Today, the facility
has 371 staffed beds (including 26 bassinets), and a medical
staff of more than 400. It is recognized as a regional referral
center for the approximately 361,000 residents in 28 surrounding
towns comprising the Greater Danbury region. The hospital
is a major teaching facility with highly skilled staff and
state-of-the-art technological capabilities, including:
a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center, magnetic resonance imaging,
computer axial tomography (CAT) laser surgery, two high
energy linear accelerators, angiography, a neonatal Level
II nursery, nuclear cardiology imaging, and cardiac catheterization.
Services include the following areas: Women and Children,
Cardiovascular, Oncology, Trauma Medicine, Psychiatry/Behavioral
Medicine and Surgery.
Danbury Health Systems, established in 1985 as a not-for-profit
corporation, supports the programs and activities of Danbury
Hospital, the Development Fund, Danbury Health Care Affiliates,
Danbury Visiting Nurse Association, and Regional Hospice
of Western Connecticut.

Wilton Meadows Health Care Center provides intermediate
and skilled nursing care for long-term care, as well as
short-term, rehabilitative and respite care. In-house physical,
occupational and speech therapy and audiological, dental,
ophthalmological, podiatric, and psychiatric services are
part of the program. Two nursing stations are staffed 24
hours a day by a licensed nurse and certified nursing assistants,
insuring round-the-clock attention to both routine health
care procedures and medical emergencies. A high staff-to-patient
ratio means residents receive personalized care, from monitoring
their medical status to meeting their particular dietary
and therapy needs.
The facility was designed to provide for the needs of 126
residents, in private or semiprivate rooms, on two floors.
The interior is professionally decorated and the residents'
rooms overlook gardens and woods. Recreational stimulation
is met through monthly activity schedules offering bridge,
ice cream socials, singalongs, arts and crafts, boat trips
on Long Island Sound, and more.

health care agency based in Wilton serving Fairfield County.
Its mission is to work in partnership with families and
communities to promote well-being and to preserve each person
s humanity in the case of illness and disability. Founded
in 1929, NHC is a non-profit, Medicare-certified, state-licensed
home health care agency accredited with commendation by
CHAP (the Community Health Care Accredi-tation Program).
